Boundary Fare Claim

In February 2019, Mr. Justin Gutmann, a veteran consumer-rights advocate represented by Charles Lyndon, brought the first stand-alone collective action in the Competition Appeal Tribunal against First MTR South Western Trains, Stagecoach South Western Limited and South Eastern Railway Limited alleging that millions of passengers had paid twice for part of their train journeys.

In 2021, Mr Gutmann launched a further claim against Govia Thameslink Railway Limited. The claims were certified and then case managed together, and proceeded to trial in June and July of 2024.

In May 2024, Mr Gutmann and Stagecoach South Western Limited agreed to settle the claim against Stagecoach for £25 million. The distribution of damages to eligible class members is underway, and more information about the settlement can be found here: https://www.boundaryfares.com/.
